The first book that I remember reading ‘on my own’ were the choose your own adventure books. I could read the five different times and while the characters stayed the same, there was new context and different plot angles or character perspectives that added more texture to the story. Perhaps that is why I like to reread my favorite adult stories multiple times. Each time I read the story again I get sometiong new out of it, I make a new connection or find new insight into well known characters. That’s the idea that underlies the sg::malu story. It is not a book, it is not a movie or and animation but it is all of these things and those traditional vehicals cannot tell that story. Part of whats so exciting about reading and rereading my favorite stories is the discovery and cognition of making connections and finding meaning in the authors imagination. The web as it stands does not do that for me. News is nice, online shopping is cool, sometimes. YouTube is entertaining but it’s to much like tv, it’s to passive and the novelty of those web apps wear off quickly and my attention wanders, my mind gets bored. Reddit and slashdot are cool but they quickly lose my interest. The discussions are quickly diluted with mass opinions and it becomes work to sort through the mud and water to find a diamond. It is no longer pleasing to my mind to search for new and interesting insight.
