Mean Papa

I was getting Hannah dressed this morning and it was going on a 45 minute adventure. As my frustration level increased so did the firmness of my tone. I tried to keep it matter of fact, “Hannah you need to do this, that and then shoes.” After increasing the firmness of my requests Hannah looked up at me and said, “You are being mean to me Papa!” I think my heart broke and I let gfo of trying to get to work by 8:30. While I still wanted her to get dressed, I was no longer worried with how long it took her to do things. She sings while she was getting pants and socks and shoes on. She reminds me of myself and all the times I said to myself, “When I am a parent I will …” Now is the time to let her be a child and explore all the mysteries that interest her, not worry about getting her to school or myself to work at a certain time. Her natural curiosity is way more important and I should remember that and try to nurture it for her.
