Hannah's Song List

Hannah wants me to make a list of names for my song. She is like me - she has a difficult time shutting down. The last few day’s she has said that she is scared and that she can’t do it. My reply is to tell her that I know she can and that I believe in her and then walk her through some steps that work for me. I start by answering her questions, but slowly. In fact I don’t even respond the first time to see if it’s important enough to answer. After I answer a few questions I tell her that its time to go to sleep and we need to calm our minds and bodies. Then, I’ll work in a few yoga breaths: in through the nose, out through the mouth and count. There are five of these. Last night I brought my guitar in to get my session in while I was working with her. I have been playing pretty regularly the last year or so and I have a few patterns that I can call my own. I started playing her one. And got lots of questions. Why do you press the gold thing? A string. What are the white things on the neck? Fake pearl inlays on the fretboards. Ok, Kiddo. It’s time to go to sleep. If you don’t lay your head down and stop asking questions I am going to have to take a toy away. I will take the piano away if you ask any more questions. She tells me she understands and that she will lay down. I continue to play for a few minutes. She wants to ask me one more question and I let her. What is this sound called? Hmmm, I don’t know I say. What do you want to call it I ask? To keep us from getting distracted from the goal at hand (getting to sleep) we decided to make a list of names and Hannah will get to choose the one she wants. She wanted to call it Dora but I said prolly not :) Here is the list so far.

  1. Line Ride
  2. Ride The Line
  3. Walk The Shore
  4. In Between Sounds
