PDT: Personal Data Tools

I want tools for mining value from my personal data. Lights: I want a program that is easy to use and lets my set up a light cycle. It will controll all of the lights in my house with easily overridable but sane defaults. For example it will know when sunset is depending on the time of year and adjust the cycles accordingly. I can tell it when the wake-up/go-to-sleep times are for the household. If a person gets up during the go-to-sleep time the lights come on only where that person needs it and they are not blinding. What tools care there out there that could help me? Need to run software on a net work that can interface with the electrical system. The software needs to generate a ‘map’ of the house electrical system. which outlets have lights plugged into them? Which lights are dim-amble? Will it run on the ol G5 desktop if I hook it up in the basement and ssh into it? for PPC. Note to self - I only need it to run the MCE iso and I would like to put it in the basement and just ssh into it to control it. We will see how it goes this winter.
