Right Place, Right Time

Whats going on at Twitter is eye opening.

When you see names like Musk and Calcanis who are early internet success stories that have leveraged that success into a story about hard work and many blog posts or TED like talks prescribing their world view about management you see them for who they truly are. Its easy to hide behind a public company or an edited post or a speech that has been rehearsed and polished to give exactly the message for a niche so small that it doesn’t really exist to an audience that doesn’t have the context or engagement with the speaker/writer to get the full story.

Whats interesting about the Twitter Hellscape is that they are willingly putting out there that their previous (early) success was much more likely due to success case because they didn’t have any competitors and in Musks case, his later successes were working the levers of VC/government systems of capital investment by lying and cheating.

The Twitter Hellscape

What is interesting here is that noone can hide. There is no place to hide. There is no board for Musk to blame. Calcanis clearly has fingerprints and active involvement in the designs of how Musk has reshaped Twitter in his own image. Even in the way Musk childishly retaliates against anyone in the world who dares speak against him by using Twitter as his own little fiefdom by banning and shadowbanning and randomly cahanging the terms and conditions willy nilly based on what side of the bed he woke up on.
