Today's Idea

Expanding on the personal/home management system I want the software that is powered by the data gathered and which controls the functions of the device to run like a Chrome App. you download it and when it installs it asks you for your sudo permission, one time. Then shell scripts, python Lisp? could be used to send the commands and retrieve the data from the device. The software could control the standard routines -> the nightly light cycle tied to sunset. Hell - I think it would be cool to make the lights get brighter as slow as the sun sets. Light’s only need to come on to 95% and go down to 10% during the late night part of the cycle. The system would know when sunrise is and the close it got, the brightness% would increase -> if a light was triggered by recognizing that I got up early. The interface to control, add rooms, add light cycles (its a game … who has the coolest light cycle? On Halloween this could be cool - randomly turn off some rooms and flash others (with colored light) while scary sounds were played. The other thing I saw that was cool and not to hard was the evolution of the string ‘hello world’. I might choose a different string but it seemed pretty simple. There is a fitness function and a mutation function. The fitness function provides feedback to the mutation function which takes two randomly chosen parents and combines them into one. The genome starts out random letters and as its chillun get fit it evolves to ‘Arya Stark Lives’. It would be even cooler to show the process off in canvasy htmlf typogrified gloriousness. The canvas would have twenty panels each with the current value of the individual. The backgrounds would all start out blue (cold) the more fit the individual got the hotter (Red/Orange) the color would get. So what I see is the phrase ???? ????? ?????? they also see the color change as the genome gets fit. I also had a flash while walking Whintey. Show photos fast. Lots of them. Make a mess and clean it up. When the page loads the slide show starts. Think slot machines in vegas without the noise and smoke. When the user hovers over a picture. everything pauses the hovered image gets bigger and the rest of the page fades to gray. The user can now do stuff to this photo. The speed should follow best practices of game mechanics. Make it just fast enough that you get it most of the time but not always. Stuf done could be a comment or sharing action or it could be a flag that adds the photo to a list. See, rather than letting the user piece by piece assemble the thing. In this case a photo album, you let them grow it. The game aspect of I missed one, is impetus to keep an eye out for that image and the next time you see it means something to you to get it where you want it - how you want it. I don’t think the web feels very organic. Not in the food organic way.
