Just some numbers for my thoughts. 128 hours @$150.00 per hour is $19,200. The total (with design and pm is $22,351). What does this tell you? The Catalog project involved:
- Re-Architecting the products data to include a division/category/sub-category model.
- Tracking for user activities (viewing details and emailing products to customers).
- Two ways to search the catalog (by text or by div/cat/sub-cat).
- Presentation of three screens: Home, product list and product detail.
- A Product cart that is used to collect products, sync with server
- Generate emails with pdf attacments for each product in cart.
- CMS - super admins need to be able to manage the products (div/cat/sub-cat, descriptions, features, footnotes)
Today I am ~75% done so could estimate that it will take another $6400 for me to complete.
Estimated total = $25,600. Work started around 8/23 and the ‘Mostly final’ beta will be delivered on 9/19.
The other question to answer is: How can I do this for myself? I like the folks here, but that is good money. I could live off $100/hour if I could generate and schedule projects around life. IE - nothing big in the summer or winter. big things in the fall and spring and smaller, one off projects that do not require the same amount of though and focus as the one above.
